Karamatsu Shrine

Karamatsu Shrine in Kyowa, Daisen City, is an old shrine quietly cherished by locals and known for an avenue of cedars said to be over three hundred years old. At most shrines the main hall stands at the top of a stairway, but here you walk through the precincts and then descend a flight of steps to reach the main hall, a layout that is rare in Japan. Since ancient times it has gathered faith as a deity of safe childbirth and the blessing of children, drawing worshippers even from afar.
