Funagoya Onsen

Welling up beside the Yabe River that runs through Chikugo, Funagoya Onsen is an iron-bearing carbonated mineral spring that boasts one of the highest carbonic content figures in Japan. Its composition was recognized in a Meiji era analysis, and it has long been a bathing retreat said to aid the stomach and chronic constipation when drunk and to ease nerve pain when bathed in.

A Quick Tip

The mineral water has a slightly rough touch and is usually warmed before bathing. There is also a place to drink it, so mind the etiquette and try a sip.
