Tsukiyama Shrine, standing in Otsuki Town, Hata District, Kochi Prefecture, is a very old shrine that enshrines a sacred crescent-shaped stone as its object of worship. According to tradition, the shrine began when a sacred crescent stone found long ago in the mountains here was enshrined, and later the monk Kobo Daishi is said to have visited the area and held a moon-waiting rite before the sacred stone. Standing quietly by the sea, it has long been cherished by locals as a guardian deity of the Otsuki coast.
