Ashizuri Onsenkyo Hot Springs at the Southern Tip of Shikoku

🐟 Kochi|July 2, 2026

Ashizuri Onsenkyo

Perched on high ground near Cape Ashizuri, the southernmost point of Shikoku, this cluster of inns commands sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. Alongside Kongofukuji Temple, linked to the monk Kobo Daishi, and the white Ashizuri Lighthouse, the area has welcomed travelers for centuries.

Highlights

From the clifftop open-air baths, an unbroken horizon stretches out and the powerful Kuroshio current crashes against the rocks below. Sunrise over the water and the flicker of fishing boat lights at night are equally memorable, letting you feel the wild nature of the cape while you soak.

Enjoying the Seasons

Spring brings tunnels of blooming camellias along the cape, summer glows with brilliant blue seas, and autumn and winter offer star-filled skies in crisp clear air. The mild climate of southern Tosa makes it comfortable to visit all year round.

Access and Basic Information

The resort sits around Cape Ashizuri in Tosashimizu City, Kochi Prefecture. It is about two and a half hours by car from central Kochi, or reachable by bus from Nakamura Station on the Tosa Kuroshio Railway. Some inns offer day-use bathing.

A Quick Tip

Combine a walk along the cape promenade with a visit to the lighthouse. Arriving at dusk and watching the sunrise from your bath makes for a truly luxurious stay.
