Akame Forty-Eight Waterfalls: Mysterious Waterfall Group Cascading Through Deep Ravines

The Akame Forty-Eight Waterfalls, in Nabari City of Mie Prefecture, form a gorge where waterfalls large and small appear one after another, making it a popular hiking spot. The name Akame, meaning red eyes, is said to derive from a legend in which En no Gyoja, founder of mountain asceticism, met Fudo Myoo riding a red-eyed cow during training. It has long been a sacred site for mountain and waterfall ascetics and is also known as a ground for ninja training.
