Sakunami Onsen

In the mountains of western Sendai, along the upper reaches of the Hirose River, Sakunami has long been called the mountain retreat of Sendai. Inns line the gorge, and it is cherished as a calm resort where abundant water and beautiful nature come together in harmony.

Fresh greenery in spring, cool relief in summer, foliage in autumn, and snow-viewing in winter each give the gorge a different face. Autumn in particular tints the banks of the Hirose River in rich colors, and the views from the open-air baths are at their most vivid all year.

Access and Basic Information

Sakunami Station on the JR Senzan Line is the nearest stop, reachable by train from Sendai Station. By car, it is convenient to take National Route 48 toward Yamagata from the Sendai Miyagi interchange on the Tohoku Expressway.
