Highlights

Though it sits in the city, Miyazaki Jingu is enveloped in a hushed calm, and simply walking the approach settles the heart. The Haniwa Garden at Heiwadai Park is popular with photographers for the unique expressions of the figures standing among the groves. Cherry blossoms in spring and foliage in autumn add seasonal color. The view of Miyazaki from the observation area also makes a fine memory.

Access and Tips

The two spots lie on the north side of the city center and can be reached quickly by car. By public transit, a bus bound for Heiwadai Park from Miyazaki Station is convenient, taking about twenty to thirty minutes. There is some distance between Miyazaki Jingu and Heiwadai Park, so a bus or taxi is comfortable. The park grounds are undulating, so wear comfortable shoes.

A Quick Tip

If half a day leaves you time to spare, drop by the nearby Prefectural Museum of Nature and History to deepen your understanding of Miyazakis past and nature. It makes the myth tour all the richer.
