1. Togakushi Shrine Okusha Approach (Nagano City)

The approach lined with a row of cedar trees over 400 years old is like an entrance to another world. The moment sunlight filters through the trees makes for a truly divine shot.

📷 Shooting Tips Shooting in vertical composition from the center of the approach toward the Okusha makes the tunnel feel of the cedar rows stand out. The 6–8 a.m. hours of morning are fantastical, combined with mist and morning haze. The autumn foliage season (late October to early November) has beautiful golden gradations.

🚌 Access　About 60 minutes by bus from Nagano Station, get off at the Togakushi Chusha bus stop, then walk about 30 minutes

2. Bungui Pass (Ina City)

One of Japan's foremost power spots, known as a "zero magnetic field." The spread of mountain ridges and sky is overwhelming, and even the clear, crisp air seems to dwell in your photos.

📷 Shooting Tips On a blue-sky day, a horizontal composition with a wide-angle lens taking in the sky and mountains large is best. In the early summer morning (5–6 a.m.), a sea of clouds sometimes forms, and you can aim for a fantastical shot. Placing a person in the foreground boosts the "I'm traveling" feeling ⤴

3. Kozen-ji Temple (Komagane City)

The approach lined with moss-covered stone pavement and cedar rows is like a green carpet. The way faint light shines into the dim space is like a scene from a movie.

📷 Shooting Tips The aim is after the rain in May to June, when the green of the moss is beautiful. Shooting from a low angle with the stone pavement as the main subject makes the wet moss shine vividly. Cloudy days are better as shadows don't appear and the green coloring is GOOD ✨

🚌 Access　About 10 minutes by bus from JR Iida Line Komagane Station, get off at the Kozen-ji-mae bus stop and you're right there

4. Suwa Taisha Shimosha Akimiya (Shimosuwa Town, Suwa District)

The head shrine of the 25,000 Suwa shrines nationwide. The imposing kagura hall and great shimenawa rope have a stunning presence. A composition capturing the torii gate and worship hall in a single frame is popular as orthodox "shrine photogenia."

📷 Shooting Tips In winter (January to February), the snow-covered precinct has a breathtakingly beautiful contrast of the red torii and white. At dusk in the 4–5 p.m. hours, orange light hits the shrine buildings for a warm shot.

5. Zenko-ji Temple (Nagano City)

The stage of "led by a cow to a Zenko-ji pilgrimage," boasting 1,400 years of history. The stone-paved approach continuing from the Niomon gate to the Sanmon gate is a sacred site that makes a picture wherever you frame it.

📷 Shooting Tips During the early-morning "oasaji" (morning service) hour around 6 a.m., there's also the fantastical sight of monks walking in procession. A shot looking back with the Sanmon gate in the background, or a vertical composition using the depth of the approach, is great.
