Myoko Onsen is a rustic hot spring town at the gateway to the Myoko highlands. Cradled by rich mountain nature, it lets you soak quietly, a little apart from the bustle of the tourist areas. Ponds and ski slopes dot the surroundings, making it an outdoor base through every season.

Highlights

The calm inns and views of the Myoko range are its charm. Strolling to nearby Imori Pond or along the highland paths lets you take in the abundance of nature. Imori Pond, which mirrors Mount Myoko, is also known for skunk cabbage blossoms and autumn foliage.

Enjoying the Seasons

Spring brings skunk cabbage blossoms, summer a cool highland, autumn blazing foliage, and winter baths with a view of the snow, each season showing a different face.

Access and Basic Information

It is close to Myoko-Kogen Station on the Echigo Tokimeki Railway, easily reached by bus or car. The Myoko-Kogen interchange is convenient too. The water is described as a simple spring with a mild, gentle feel, enjoyed by a wide range of ages.

Practical Travel Notes

The town has a public bath called Oyu, where you can easily enjoy the plain, locally loved water. Day-trip hours and fees may change, so check the latest guidance before your visit. The spa town is easy to reach on foot or by a short bus ride from Myoko-Kogen Station, and it is close to Imori Pond, making it a spot where bathing and nature walks pair well. Several hot springs make up the Myoko-Kogen spa district, so it is also worth extending your trip to places like Akakura Onsen.

A Quick Tip

Pairing your soak with a highland walk nearby makes the after-bath glow all the sweeter. A plain simple spring suits a long, relaxed soak, so take your time and savor the quiet.
