Shinsekai Tennoji and Tsutenkaku Course
Shinsekai retains a retro atmosphere, while Tennoji shows a modern cityscape. This course spends a full day exploring an area where the old and the new live side by side. The route takes about seven hours and is perfect for those who want to feel the old-town mood of the Showa era.
Course Route
10:00 Start at Tsutenkaku Begin at Tsutenkaku, the symbol of Shinsekai. Climb to the observation deck and you will be greeted by views of the city and Billiken, the god of good fortune.
11:00 Stroll through Shinsekai Wander through Shinsekai, lined with flashy signs and pufferfish lanterns. The retro alleys still hold the air of the Showa era.
12:00 Lunch with the famous kushikatsu Shinsekai is all about kushikatsu. At a long-loved local shop, enjoy crispy skewers fresh from the fryer.
13:30 Visit Tennoji Zoo Head to Tennoji Zoo, right next to Shinsekai. At this historic zoo you can meet a variety of animals.
15:00 Move to Abeno Harukas Go to Abeno Harukas, the skyscraper towering in front of Tennoji Station. From one of Japans tallest observation decks, look out over the city.
16:30 A break in Tennoji Park Come down from the building and relax in the Tenshiba area of green Tennoji Park. Sit on the lawn and ease the days fatigue.
17:30 Dinner in Tennoji Finish with a meal at a restaurant around Tennoji, wrapping up a day where retro and modern intersect.
