Access and Basic Information

The spa sits along the Ariake coast of Tara Town, near Takezaki. National Route 207 is the main route, running along the trunk road linking the Nagasaki and Kashima directions, so it is convenient by car. Day-use bathing is also available, so you can enjoy the scenic waters without staying overnight.

A Quick Tip

The view baths are most beautiful at sunrise and dusk, so if staying overnight, plan your soak accordingly. Reserving the famous crab dishes in advance is the safe choice.

Practical Information for Your Visit

• Day bathing: Taradake Onsen Kani Goten, Ariakekai no Yu (316-3 Otsu, Oaza Oura, Tara-cho, Fujitsu-gun, Saga Prefecture / tel. 0954-68-2260). 3,300 yen (including tax), by reservation only
• Bathing time slots: 8:00-10:30 / 12:00-14:30 / 14:30-17:00 / 17:00-19:30 / 19:30-22:00. From 10:30 to 12:00 the baths are outside opening hours for cleaning (during this time they are opened up as a photography slot)
• Layout of the baths: The 1st and 2nd floors are swapped between men and women. Each floor has 1 indoor bath, 1 dry sauna (80 degrees Celsius on the 1st floor, 90 degrees Celsius on the 2nd) and 1 cold-water bath (130 cm deep at 17 degrees Celsius on the 1st floor, 150 cm deep at 16 degrees Celsius on the 2nd). The cold-water baths are deep enough to stand up in, and natural groundwater from the Taradake mountain range flows through them continuously
• Saunas: The Gravity Sauna on the 2nd floor, built with spruce from trees 350 to 400 years old (self-service loyly possible), and the Grid Sauna on the 1st floor, fitted with a low-load heater introduced for the first time in Japan (self-service loyly using groundwater from 600 m below ground)
• Facilities and amenities: Shampoo, conditioner, body soap, face towels, sauna mats and hairdryers. Bath towels and gowns are provided for women. The recovery lounge with free drinks can also be used by day visitors
• What needs to be booked: Day bathing is by reservation only (through the official website or by telephone; telephone reception is 11:30-19:00)
• Bathing etiquette: Photography inside the bathing areas during opening hours is not allowed. Bathe with the understanding that the design is fully open, with entire walls of windows and an airy layout that looks out over the terrace to the Ariake Sea
• Access: Along National Route 207. It stands on the trunk road linking the Nagasaki and Kashima directions, so coming by car is convenient
