Shirahama Onsen Adventure World and Engetsuto Course

Nanki-Shirahama is one of the finest resorts in Kansai, with a pure white beach, abundant hot springs, and a theme park where you can meet pandas. This full course lets you enjoy all of Shirahama in one day, from seaside play and animal encounters to a stunning sunset. Shirahama Onsen is counted among the three oldest hot springs in Japan.

Course Route

9:00 Start at Shirahama Station Board a Meiko bus and head first to the popular Adventure World, about ten minutes from the station.

9:30 Meet the animals at Adventure World Plenty to see, including pandas, dolphin shows, and a safari. You can enjoy hands-on encounters too. Hours are roughly 10:00 to 17:00 (varying by season), with adult admission of around 5300 yen. The park is large, so entering right at opening is recommended.

12:30 Seafood lunch at Toretore Market A large market lined with fresh catches from the sea. Enjoy a rice bowl topped with tuna and local fish for lunch. A tuna cutting show is sometimes held.

14:00 Stroll along Shirarahama Beach A beautiful beach spread with soft white sand for about 620 meters. Walk along the shoreline and soak up the tropical mood. In summer it opens as a swimming beach.

15:00 Sea-view hot spring at Sakinoyu An open-air bath looking straight out over the Pacific. It is a famous spring full of openness, with adult entry of around 500 yen. Hours change with the season, roughly from around 8:00 to the evening. Swimsuits and soap are not allowed.

17:00 Watch the sunset at Engetsuto The symbol of Shirahama, an island with a round hole in its center, formally called Takashima. When the setting sun lines up with the hole, the beauty is breathtaking.

18:00 Return to Shirahama Station Head home while looking back on the day.

Highlights

Practical Travel Notes

• Access: Shirahama is about two and a half hours from Shin-Osaka or Tennoji in Osaka on the Kuroshio limited express. Meiko buses are convenient from Shirahama Station to each spot.
• Admission guide: A one-day pass for Adventure World costs 5,300 yen for adults (18 and over), 4,800 yen for seniors (65 and over), 4,300 yen for ages 12 to 17, and 3,300 yen for children aged 4 to 11. The park is open roughly 10:00 to 17:00 (with evening extension in summer). Sakinoyu bathing is around 500 yen for adults. Parking for ordinary cars uses day-by-day variable pricing introduced on 1 August 2026, so check the calendar on the official website; large vehicles pay 2,500 yen per day and motorcycles park free.
• Getting around town: Local buses are the main option, and a one-day pass is good value. Major spots have bus stops nearby with easy connections.
• Bath etiquette: Sakinoyu is a free-flowing source open-air bath, and shampoo and soap cannot be used. Swimsuits are not allowed either. Bring your own towel.
• Engetsuto sunset: Sunset time shifts with the season, so check in advance. The seaside observation point offers the classic view.
• Clothing: Adventure World is large, so dress in easy walking clothes and shoes. In summer, remember sun protection.

Practical Information for Your Visit

• Adventure World (closing days): Closing days are irregular and centred on Wednesdays, and there are also days when it closes on Tuesdays or Thursdays as well as a run of consecutive closing days from the middle to the end of January. In the busy summer season there are days with evening opening from 10:00 to 20:00
• Adventure World (parking): Parking uses the "Smart Park" system, in which cameras read vehicle registration numbers, and parking tickets have been abolished. You need the 4-digit vehicle registration number to pay. From 1 August 2026 the ordinary car spaces switched to variable pricing that changes according to the day of the week and the season, and you check the amount for each day on the calendar on the official website. Large vehicles cost 2,500 yen a day (revised from 2,000 yen on 1 August 2026), and motorcycles are free of charge
• Saki-no-yu (opening hours): 8:00-17:00 from 1 October to 31 March, 8:00-18:00 from 1 April to 30 June and from 1 to 30 September, and 7:00-19:00 from 1 July to 31 August. Last entry is 30 minutes before closing, and it is open every day (with occasional closures for maintenance and the like). The car park has 15 spaces
• The town's public bathhouses (Shirarayu and Muro-no-yu): Both cost 420 yen for adults, 140 yen for middle-rate users and 80 yen for children. The hours when tourists may use them are 9:00-11:00 (last entry 10:30) and 14:00-21:30 (last entry 21:00); Shirarayu is closed on Thursdays and Muro-no-yu on Tuesdays. Parking is 6 spaces at Shirarayu and 5 spaces at Muro-no-yu
• Shirarahama (swimming season): The beach opens for the season during Golden Week, the earliest anywhere on Honshu, and you can enjoy sea bathing until the middle of September
