Yachi Hachimangu

Standing in Kahoku in Yamagata, Yachi Hachimangu is an ancient shrine said to have been founded in 1091 by the Heian period warrior Minamoto no Yoshiie. Its enshrined deity is Emperor Ojin. Later Shiratori Juro Nagahisa, who built Yachi castle, moved it to its present site and revered it as the guardian of the town. Most notable is the Hayashike court dance handed down at this shrine.
