Akiyoshidai and Akiyoshido Karst Course

A vast karst plateau dotted with limestone rocks, and a giant cave spreading beneath it. Akiyoshidai and Akiyoshido let you feel the natural forms shaped over ages. This one-day course links the plateau and the cave.

Course Route

9:30 Start at Akiyoshido Cave Walk the cool cave and gaze at grand formations such as the Hundred Plates and the Golden Pillar.

11:30 Elevator up to the plateau Rise from the cave to the surface and enjoy the moment the view suddenly opens up.

12:00 Lunch break at the lookout Spread out a bento before the karst scenery of grassland studded with limestone.

13:30 Hike Akiyoshidai Follow the trails across gentle hills scattered with white rocks.

15:30 Finish at the karst observatory Take in the sweeping plateau and sense the long span of geological time.

Highlights

The contrast between the huge underground space of the cave and the open karst plateau above is the main draw. The grassland changes color with the seasons.

Access and Tips

The cave stays cool all year, so a light layer is reassuring. The plateau has little shade, so bring a hat.

A Quick Tip

Because you move between the cave and the plateau with real elevation change, sturdy walking shoes are essential. Take your time with this grand landscape.
