Mizusawa Onsen

At the foot of Mount Akita-Komagatake, on the Tazawako highland, lies Mizusawa Onsen. Set on a plateau overlooking Lake Tazawa, Japans deepest lake, and close to a ski area, it is a highland resort spa to enjoy through every season.

From the open-air sulfur baths, tinted milky white, you can take in the majestic ridgeline of Mount Akita-Komagatake. Bathing while gazing at the seasonal peaks feels wonderfully open. In winter the Mizusawa ski slopes lie right in front, so you can ski and then slip straight into the bath, a luxurious way to spend the day.

Summer brings alpine flowers on Komagatake, autumn a brocade of foliage, and winter powder snow, a full range of highland fun. Its location pairs easily with sightseeing around Lake Tazawa.

Access and Basic Information

About 20 minutes by bus from JR Tazawako Station. Close to Lake Tazawa and Nyuto Onsenkyo, it is an ideal base for bath-hopping and lakeside walks.

A Quick Tip

If combining with skiing, an overnight stay is best. Since it is a sulfur spring, a light rinse after bathing is gentler on the skin.
