Yachi Onsen
Tucked quietly in the Hakkoda mountains, Yachi Onsen is counted among Japan three most secluded hot springs. Said to have more than four hundred years of history, it is known for a distinctive bathing style of alternating between two springs, a cooler lower bath and a slightly hotter upper bath. The rustic charm of an old healing inn still lingers strongly here.
Highlights
The signature bath is the cool spring that wells up from the floor, warming you to the core when you soak slowly and long. The wood-scented bathhouse is plain and unadorned, a space simply for savoring the water itself, where quiet time flows by.
Enjoying the Seasons
In the season of fresh green, the mountain foliage dazzles, and autumn paints the surroundings with Hakkoda colors. In winter, sealed in deep snow and silence, the warm water sinks into the heart all the more. It is an inn where you feel the blessings of the mountains through every season.
Access and Basic Information
The spring can be reached by car from Aomori City or the Towada area, at the end of a mountain road through Hakkoda. In winter, road conditions require caution, so preparing for snowy roads brings peace of mind.
A Quick Tip
The true joy of this spring is soaking slowly and at length in the cool bath. Do not rush; alternate between the two baths and savor the mood of a traditional cure.
