Bandai Atami Onsen

West of Koriyama, in the valley of the Iogawa River, Bandai Atami Onsen is an old spring said to have been discovered in the Kamakura period. A legend tells that Princess Iroko, who came down from the capital, healed her illness in its waters, and it is beloved as the retreat of Koriyama.

The soft-textured water is known as a beauty bath and is popular with women. The calm townscape of inns along the river includes a free foot bath, making it easy to drop by.

Cherry blossoms in spring, cool riverside air in summer, and foliage in autumn each show a different face. In winter its location pairs well with ski resorts and nearby sights.

Only about fifteen minutes from Koriyama Station on the JR Banetsu West Line, with smooth connections from the bullet train.
