Dake Onsen

In Nihonmatsu City, at the eastern foot of Mount Adatara, Dake Onsen is a spring town set on a highland of about 600 meters. Acidic water drawn from a source several kilometers away is delivered to every corner of the town.

Highlights

The grid-patterned streets are easy to walk, lined with eateries and souvenir shops. The sky over Adatara, praised by the poet Chieko Takamura as the real sky, shows a remarkable blue on clear days.

Enjoying the Seasons

Spring offers cherry blossoms and fresh greenery, while autumn brings the foliage of Mount Adatara. In winter a ski resort is close, and a drink after the bath goes straight to the bones.

Access and Basic Information

About twenty-five minutes by bus from Nihonmatsu Station. It is also a handy base for climbing Mount Adatara or riding its ropeway.

A Quick Tip

The acidic water leaves a crisp, refreshed feeling. Pairing a visit with a mountain hike makes for a full and rewarding day.
