Takayu Onsen

West of central Fukushima City, halfway up the Azuma range at about 750 meters, Takayu Onsen is a mountain spring known for its milky sulphur water. Called the hidden spring of Azuma, it takes pride in an abundant free-flowing source.

Highlights

The milk-white cloudy water, with its scent of sulphur, warms you to the core. From the open-air baths ringed by trees you feel the nature of Azuma up close, forgetting the bustle of the city.

Enjoying the Seasons

The cool highland climate is pleasant even in summer, and autumn brings splendid foliage along the Bandai-Azuma Skyline. In winter, bathing amid the snow adds a quiet grace.

Access and Basic Information

About forty minutes by bus from Fukushima Station. Its location is popular as a base for driving the Skyline.

A Quick Tip

Sulphur water lingers on the skin, so after your bath just pat yourself lightly dry to keep the benefits.
