Minowa Castle Ruins in Takasaki City is a nationally designated historic site with deep moats and earthworks still intact. Practical Information for Your Visit

• Best season and time of day: May to June for the fresh greenery and November for the autumn foliage are the times to aim for. Last admission to the Tomioka Silk Mill is 16:30, so if you want to take your time photographing, a morning visit is the safer choice.
• Opening hours / periods: Tomioka Silk Mill = 9:00-17:00 (last admission 16:30), closed December 29-31. Gunma Prefectural Government Showa Government Building = free to visit; the reception desk is open on weekdays from 8:30 to 17:15. The Ikaho Stone Steps, the Minowa Castle Ruins and the streetscapes of Kiryu are outdoors and can be visited at any time.
• Admission: Admission to the Tomioka Silk Mill is 1,000 yen for adults, 250 yen for high school and university students, 150 yen for elementary and junior high school students, and free of charge for preschool children. Visiting the Gunma Prefectural Government Showa Government Building and the Minowa Castle Ruins is free of charge.
• Access: Tomioka Silk Mill = about a 15-minute walk from Joshu-Tomioka Station on the Joshin Dentetsu Line, or about 10 minutes from the Tomioka IC on the Joshin-etsu Expressway to the various car parks. Gunma Prefectural Government Showa Government Building = about 6 minutes by bus from JR Maebashi Station on the Ryomo Line. Minowa Castle Ruins = about 30 minutes on the Gunma Bus bound for Misato from Bus Stop No. 2 at the west exit of JR Takasaki Station, get off at Misato Honmachi and walk about 20 minutes; by car it is about 30 minutes from the Takasaki IC or the Maebashi IC. Streetscapes of Kiryu = within walking distance of Kiryu Station on the JR Ryomo Line (note that Shin-Kiryu Station on the Tobu Kiryu Line is a different station).
• Parking: The Tomioka Silk Mill has no car park of its own; use one of the nearby municipal car parks and others (some free of charge, some paid), about a 10-minute walk away. The Minowa Castle Ruins car park has space for 78 ordinary cars, 3 accessible spaces and 6 large buses, and also has flush toilets.
• Photography rules: At the Tomioka Silk Mill no application is needed for personal snapshots or posting on social media, but an application must be made in advance if the images are to be used for commercial purposes, such as on items for sale or on a website. Please do not touch the buildings or the machinery. In Kiryu and Ikaho, do not photograph shops or factories that are in operation, or local residents, without permission. Flying a drone requires permission at each location.
• Safety notes: The Ikaho stone steps number 365 in total with a large change in elevation, and they freeze in winter. The Minowa Castle Ruins are earthwork remains with uneven footing that turns muddy after rain, so wear comfortable walking shoes. The moats and earthen ramparts are liable to collapse, so please do not go beyond the maintained paths.
