Lake Akan is home to marimo, the round algae designated a special natural monument. Along its southern shore spreads Akanko Onsen. A clear, easygoing simple spring makes bath-hopping a pleasure, while the town pulses with Ainu culture, drawing many travelers as a base for eastern Hokkaido sightseeing.
