Fukatani Onsen, an Amber Single-Inn Spring on the Edge of Kanazawa

🎨 Ishikawa|June 30, 2026

Fukatani Onsen

A single-inn hot spring on the northern edge of Kanazawa City, beside the murmuring Fukatani River that flows through the Morimoto hills. Said to have been founded in 1789, it is known as an old bathing inn tied to the Kaga domain. Though close to central Kanazawa, it remains a hidden spring that keeps the atmosphere of the quiet hill country.

Highlights

The source rises through a lignite layer formed from ancient accumulated plants, giving an amber-colored beauty spring known as a moor spring. Its appeal lies in the harmony of the smooth water with a Taisho-era Noh stage and old, refined design. Amid the quiet you can savor the old charm of Kanazawa.

Enjoying the Seasons

Spring brings fresh greenery, while summer pairs the river murmur with deep verdure to invite a cool calm. Autumn tints the surrounding hills, and winter lets you enjoy Kaga delicacies and the bath at leisure within the quiet snowy scenery.

Access and Basic Information

About 20 minutes by car from JR Kanazawa Station, roughly 7 minutes by car from Morimoto Station on the IR Ishikawa Railway, and about 5 minutes from the Kanazawa-Morimoto interchange on the Hokuriku Expressway. Please confirm whether day-use bathing is available and its hours with the official information.

A Quick Tip

Close to the bases for Kanazawa sightseeing, it lets you spend a quiet time apart from the bustle of the city. The surroundings are very still at night, making it a fine choice for those seeking tranquility.
