Yuwaku Onsen, the Hidden Hot Spring Retreat of Kanazawa

🎨 Ishikawa|June 30, 2026

Yuwaku Onsen

Known as the hidden retreat of Kanazawa, Yuwaku nestles in the mountains about 30 minutes by car from Kanazawa Station. A founding legend tells of a white heron healing its wounds in the spring, and the lords of the Kaga domain favored this old hot spring village. It is also remembered for its ties to the painter Yumeji Takehisa.

Highlights

The Shirasagi-no-Yu public bath has a welcoming character where locals and travelers soak together. A photogenic hot spring pond spreads before the entrance, and the spa town reflected on its surface is lovely. Featured as the setting of an animated work, it has become a place many fans come to visit.

Enjoying the Seasons

Spring brings fresh greenery, and summer offers cool scenery around the spring pond. In autumn the surrounding hills turn crimson, while winter invites quiet bathing amid snowy views. An early-spring ice-house opening event is also held here.

Access and Basic Information

About 50 minutes by Hokuriku Railroad bus from JR Kanazawa Station, or roughly 30 minutes by car. The Shirasagi-no-Yu public bath operates from morning to night and generally closes on the third Thursday of each month. Please confirm details with the tourism association.

A Quick Tip

Combine it with sightseeing in central Kanazawa, then move to Yuwaku toward evening to enjoy a quiet overnight stay.
