Meno-ishi

Meno-ishi in Minamiaso Village, Kumamoto Prefecture, was once a large boulder wedged into a cleft in the steep cliffs of the outer Aso rim. Because it appeared to float in mid-air yet never fell, it became known as the Stone That Does Not Fall and gained popularity among students facing exams. The boulder came down in the 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes, but the silhouette of the cavity left behind resembles a seated cat gazing toward Nekodake of the Aso Five Peaks. Visitors still hike up to seek out this Cat That Brings Happiness.
