⛩️ Nagasaki|July 1, 2026

Goto Arakawa Onsen

At the heart of the Goto Islands strung across the East China Sea, in the Arakawa district on the southwest side of Fukue Island, rises Arakawa Onsen. Bathing right beside a fishing port, wrapped in the scent of the tide, brings a sense of openness found only on the islands. A warm soak quietly caps a journey through Goto, alive with rich nature and Christian history.

Highlights

Arakawa has long been known as a place where hot water springs forth, and its fishing port scenery lends a simple warmth. Fukue Island offers plenty to see, from beautiful coastlines and the cliffs of Osezaki to scattered churches. Tracing the world renowned history of the hidden Christians while touring the island makes for a memorable experience.

Enjoying the Seasons

In summer you can combine a swim in the clear sea with a soak, and the sea breeze after your bath feels wonderful. Autumn and winter bring abundant seafood, and the warm water grows all the more inviting. Throughout the year, a relaxed island rhythm flows on.

Access and Basic Information

Reach Fukue Island by air from Nagasaki or Fukuoka, or by ferry and high speed boat from Nagasaki. Getting around the island is easiest by car, with rental cars available. The spring lies by the shore a little away from the port town center.

A Quick Tip

When visiting churches, please keep quiet and observe proper manners. Since the islands sights are widely scattered, planning with extra travel time is recommended.
