Horai Onsen is a natural hot spring drawn from its own source by Nara Park Hotel in Horai, Nara city. It is a rare place in the city where you can enjoy a genuine natural spring close to the downtown area gathered with sights. The gentle water, containing sodium bicarbonate, eases the tiredness of travel.

Highlights

In the large bath with its garden open-air section, steeped in the air of Nara, a capital of 1300 years, you can savor the hotels own source water in a relaxed space. Its smooth feel leaves the skin nicely settled after a soak. Beyond overnight stays there are day bathing and meal-included plans, making it easy to drop by between sightseeing. Easy to reach from central Nara, it is a fine bath to round off a tour of historic shrines and temples.

Enjoying the Seasons

In spring and autumn the outside air feels pleasant and relaxing in the open-air bath is exceptional. In summer you ease a body heated by sightseeing with water and fresh air, and in winter the steaming open-air bath warms you from the core. As a base for a journey through Naras four seasons, it is easy to use all year.

Access and Basic Information

The spa is in Horai, Nara city, Nara. Close to the city center with good car access, it has ample parking. Day bathing costs around 1,000 yen for adults and about 500 yen for children aged four to twelve, with reception generally from late morning into the evening. The water is a simple spring containing sodium bicarbonate and metasilicic acid, a gentle bath sometimes called a beauty water. Because reception hours can shift with overnight guests and banquets, it is reassuring to check with the hotel before visiting.

Practical Travel Notes

It is an easy drive from major sights such as Nara Park, Todaiji temple, and the Heijo Palace site, and suits a closing bath after a day on foot. Since day use runs into the evening, you can also drop by at a relaxed pace after late afternoon. Choosing a meal-included plan lets you enjoy the bath and a meal together and saves extra travel. As a budget guide, figure on the low thousands of yen per person for a bath alone, or several thousand with a meal. Confirming whether towels are provided or rentable beforehand helps you travel light.

A Quick Tip

Day use hours can be limited depending on overnight guests and banquets, so checking ahead is recommended. Combined with sights such as Nara Park and the Heijo Palace site, you can plan an efficient day with little travel. Being close to the city, it can get busy on weekends, so arriving with time to spare is wise.
