Yamada Onsen: Day-Use Hot Spring Baths & Prices

Handed down in Onna Village, Yamada Onsen is a hot spring with a long history, said to have been discovered welling up naturally from the sea back in the Taisho era. Today it is carried on as the large bath of Renaissance Resort Okinawa, cherished as a calm spring with views over the East China Sea.

Access and Basic Information

About 20 minutes by car from the Ishikawa Interchange on the Okinawa Expressway. It is currently run mainly as a bath for overnight guests, centered on use by certain long-stay guests and guests on specific floors, so please note that day-use is not available. Conditions may change, so checking the official site before your visit is reassuring.

Practical Travel Notes

Dusk is ideal, with the soak while watching the sun set over the East China Sea being truly special. Plan it together with an overnight stay; allow about an hour for a bath, or a full day combined with the beach and pool. Nearby, the Blue Cave at Cape Maeda, Manzamo, and roadside stations lie within driving range, making it a good base for touring Onna Village. Since there is no day-use, confirm the conditions in advance.

For a spring that people have cherished since long ago, the best approach is simply to soak slowly. Resting your body without rushing while taking in the sea view will surely add a touch of color to your travel memories. Confirming in advance whether your stay plan qualifies for use is reassuring.

Practical Information for Your Visit

• Day-use bathing: Not available. Yamada Onsen is on the second floor of the Renaissance Resort Okinawa, and the official website describes it as a hot spring facility reserved for guests staying on the Club Floor and in the Ryukyu Suites and for Club Savvy members. Even ordinary hotel guests cannot use it if their room type is not included, so be sure to check when you book
• Hours: 6:00-10:00 / 13:00-24:00 (last entry 23:15). Closed every Thursday from 9:30 to 15:30 for regular cleaning
• The baths: The women's side has an indoor bath, a semi-open-air bath and a steam sauna; the men's side has an indoor bath, a semi-open-air bath and a dry sauna. Baby baths are provided for infants
• Spring quality and source: A natural hot spring. The source temperature is 27.2 degrees C and the flow rate is 200 liters per minute. The conditions the hotel officially lists as suited to bathing here include neuralgia, muscle pain, joint pain, frozen shoulder, bruises, chronic digestive complaints, sensitivity to cold, recovery from fatigue, chronic skin conditions, diabetes and arteriosclerosis
• Access: 3425-2 Yamada, Onna Village, Kunigami District, Okinawa Prefecture (tel. 098-965-0707). About 10 minutes by car from the Ishikawa IC on the Okinawa Expressway, or about 60 minutes by car from Naha Airport (about 13,000 yen by small taxi, including the 650 yen expressway toll). The airport limousine bus takes about 70 minutes and costs 1,700 yen for adults and 850 yen for children (aged 3 to under 12)
• Parking: Free of charge, 200 spaces. There are 2 EV charging stations (able to charge up to 4 vehicles at once). When parking, please speak to a member of staff at the main entrance
• What needs to be reserved: A room plan that qualifies (Club Floor or Ryukyu Suite) or Club Savvy membership. No separate reservation is needed for the hot spring itself
• Safety notes: As the source temperature is a low 27.2 degrees C, the water is heated. It is easy to become dehydrated after a day in the sea, so drink plenty of water before and after bathing

Note: Its greatest appeal is its setting on the shore of Onna Village, where you can bathe while watching the sun set over the East China Sea. There are no railways on Okinawa's main island (only the Yui Rail in Naha), so getting around means a rental car or the limousine bus.
