Hashirii Mochi
Hashirii mochi is a famous rice cake handed down at Otsu Oiwake, a post town on the Tokaido. Soft mochi made with the celebrated spring water Hashirii, welling up at the foot of Osakayama, and Omi rice wraps a smooth sweet bean paste.

Its unique shape, said to resemble the edge of a sword blade, is distinctive, and it has soothed travelers since the Edo period. The melt in the mouth mochi made with pure water and the elegantly sweet paste weave a simple taste still loved today.

It can be bought at the head shop in Otani, Otsu, and its direct stores. Within walking distance of Otani and Oiwake stations on the Keihan Keishin Line, it is also easy to reach from Kyoto.
