Fujinomiya One Day Course Sengen Taisha and Shiraito Falls

Spreading across the western foot of Mount Fuji, Fujinomiya is a town of spring water and faith. Visiting Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha, the head shrine of all Sengen shrines, and Shiraito Falls, part of the World Cultural Heritage, lets you feel the blessings of the sacred peak with all your senses. Course Route

9:30 Start at JR Fujinomiya Station A gateway easy to reach by car from the Shin Fuji or Fuji interchange.

10:00 Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha About a ten minute walk from the station. The head shrine of more than thirteen hundred Sengen shrines nationwide, with a beautiful vermilion main hall and Wakutama Pond fed by Mount Fuji spring water. Mount Fuji itself is the object of worship.

11:30 Lunch with Fujinomiya yakisoba Made with distinctive springy steamed noodles, Fujinomiya yakisoba is the signature local dish. Try it at a shop near the station.

13:00 Travel to Shiraito Falls About a twenty minute drive from the shrine. At this famous waterfall countless threads of water pour down a green cliff like silk, and it is designated a national scenic spot and natural monument. The nearby Otodome Falls is also powerful.

14:30 Walk around the basin View the falls up close from the path, and on clear days Mount Fuji peeks out behind them.

15:30 Rest at a highland or ranch nearby Toward the Asagiri Plateau you can enjoy fresh dairy products and soft serve ice cream.

16:30 Return to Fujinomiya Station to finish

Highlights

Shiraito Falls is stunning as it spreads wide down a cliff about twenty meters high, especially beautiful in fresh green and autumn color seasons. The clear Wakutama Pond at the shrine speaks to the abundance of Mount Fuji groundwater.

Access and Tips

Shiraito Falls has no free parking, so use the paid lots nearby. By public transport, take a bus from Fujinomiya Station toward the falls. Buses are limited, so check the timetable. A car is handy for reaching the Asagiri Plateau.

A Quick Tip

There are many steps and slopes around the falls, so wear comfortable shoes. Mount Fuji is most visible in the clear air of the morning.
