"Etchu Owara Kaze no Bon" is a festival held from September 1 to 3 every year in the Yatsuo district of Toyama City. This period, the 210th day counted from Risshun (the first day of spring), is said to be a time when typhoons often blow. Since ancient times, owara has been handed down in this area as an event to pray for a good harvest and to quell the calamity of the wind. The fantastical atmosphere woven from melancholy melodies and refined dance has a beauty that sets it apart from other festivals. It is a lyrical festival that Toyama takes pride in, visited by many people from across the country.

The Kokyu and the Melodies of the Dance

What characterizes Owara Kaze no Bon is the tone of the kokyu (a bowed string instrument). In addition to shamisen and drums, the plaintive yet beautiful melody of the bowed kokyu creates owara's distinctive air of melancholy. Owara Kaze no Bon is held from September 1 to 3 every year. Plan your visit for this period. Because crowds are enormous, it is recommended to arrange transport and accommodation early. For access, JR Takayama Main Line "Etchu-Yatsuo Station" is the base. Combine it with sightseeing in central Toyama City or Tateyama Kurobe, and experience a fantastical autumn night woven from the tone of the kokyu and elegant dance.

• Nearest station: "Etchu-Yatsuo" Station on the JR Takayama Main Line (25-30 minutes from JR Toyama Station). About a 30-minute walk from the station to the venue
• Parking: There are two paid temporary car parks (Yatsuo Sports Arena, with shuttle bus / Konagatani car park, no shuttle bus). The event cooperation fee is 3,000 yen per vehicle, with reception from 9:00 to 23:00. Shuttle buses run back and forth between the Yatsuo Sports Arena and Yatsuo Ohashi
• Traffic restrictions: September 1 and 2, 16:00-24:00; September 3, 18:00-24:00
• Paid viewing seats: Tickets for the competition at the Hikiyama Exhibition Hall are 4,000 yen per seat (tax included, unreserved seating), with 350 seats per session. Part 1 is 18:00-19:00 and Part 2 is 19:20-20:20. Applications for individuals open at 11:00 on June 2 on the website "tabiwa"
• In case of rain: As a rule, the event is suspended during rain
• Note on crowds: If it is judged that safety and security are compromised due to crowding or other factors, the event may be suspended
