Yonezawa Castle Town and Uesugi Legacy Course

This route explores Yonezawa, the castle town ruled by the Uesugi clan. Centered on Uesugi Shrine and the Yonezawa Castle ruins, you can enjoy sites tied to famous lords and the local Yonezawa beef in a single day.

Course Route

9:30 Start at Uesugi Shrine Visit Uesugi Shrine, built on the main keep site of Yonezawa Castle. Pray for a safe trip at this shrine dedicated to Uesugi Kenshin.

10:00 Walk Matsugasaki Park Stroll through Matsugasaki Park on the castle ruins, sensing the traces of the castle town in its moats and earthen walls.

10:30 Visit the Uesugi Museum Learn about the history and culture of Yonezawa at the museum housing treasures and records of the Uesugi family.

12:00 Lunch of Yonezawa beef Savor Yonezawa beef sukiyaki or steak at a noted restaurant in the town.

14:00 The Uesugi Mausoleum Head to the Uesugi Mausoleum where generations of lords rest. The tombs lined among the cedars give off a solemn air.
