Hachinohe Morning Market and Fresh Seafood: Savoring Pacific Ocean Bounty

🍎 Aomori|May 11, 2026

Hachinohe Food Culture

Hachinohe is one of Japan's leading fishing cities by catch volume. Fresh Pacific seafood and a distinctive local food culture have flourished here.

Morning Markets

- Tatehana Wharf Morning Market: One of Japan's largest, held every Sunday from 4 AM - Shirogane Morning Market: Small market popular with locals - Mutsu Minato Station Morning Market: Fresh seafood spread in front of the station

Local Dishes

- Senbei-jiru: A hot pot with Nanbu rice crackers simmered in broth - Ichigo-ni: Sea urchin and abalone in clear soup — Aomori's ultimate delicacy - Hachinohe Ramen: Light, dried sardine-based noodle soup

Getting There

- From JR Hachinohe Shinkansen Station into the city - To Tatehana Wharf by bus from Hachinohe Station: about 20 minutes

Tips

The morning market starts at 4 AM — staying overnight is recommended. "Ichigo-ni" is available canned, but the version served at local restaurants is incomparably better.
