On the western coast of the Shimokita Peninsula in Sai Village, Aomori, Hotokegaura features bizarre greenish-white tuff formations rising 30 to 100 meters along about 2 kilometers of shoreline. Named the Shore of Buddha for rock shapes resembling Buddhist figures, it is a designated Natural Monument and Scenic Site, drawing roughly 200,000 visitors a year.

It is located in Chogo, Sai Village, Shimokita District. The landscape was formed as green tuff was eroded by the sea and weathered, and hundreds of strange rocks 6 to 90 meters high stand in a row, bearing names such as "Hitotsu-botoke," "Jusan-butsu," "Renge-iwa," "Tenryu-iwa," "Nyorai-no-kubi-iwa," "Koro-iwa," "Shokudai-iwa," "Gohyaku Rakan," "Oyako-iwa" and "Futami-iwa."
• Sightseeing boat season: The scheduled service of Hotokegaura Kaijo Kanko Co., Ltd. runs from May 1 to the end of October. The trip between Sai Port and Hotokegaura takes about 30 minutes.
• Boat timetable (departing from and returning to Sai Port): Service 1 departs Sai at 10:30 and arrives at Hotokegaura at 11:00, then departs at 11:30 and arrives back at Sai at 12:00 (30 minutes ashore). Service 2 departs Sai at 13:00 and arrives at Hotokegaura at 13:30, then departs at 14:10 and arrives back at Sai at 14:40 (40 minutes ashore). There are also extra services departing at 9:00, 9:30, 12:00 and 14:00.
