Phantom Capital of the Sengoku Era

Ichijodani Asakura Clan Ruins is a National Special Historic Site located in Fukui City suburbs, ruins of the castle town of the Asakura clan that controlled Echizen in the Sengoku era. Attacked and destroyed by Oda Nobunaga in 1573, the castle town was burned and then buried under sediment over many years. Excavations since the 1960s discovered the 400-year-old castle town almost intact.

Restored Castle Town

Part of the ruins has been developed as "Fukugen Machinami" (restored townscape), with buildings including samurai residences, merchant houses, and temples restored to their original state. The living environment of samurai, merchants, and craftsmen of the time can be experienced.

Asakura Clan Culture

The Asakura clan was a Sengoku-era warlord that valued culture, actively incorporating Kyoto culture to create a cultural city in Echizen called the "Northern Kyoto." The Asakura Clan Ruins Museum allows learning about Asakura clan history and culture through excavated items and restored models.
