Fudo no Taki: A Hidden Waterfall Linked to Kobo Daishi in Mitoyo, Kagawa

๐Ÿœ Kagawa|June 24, 2026

Fudo no Taki

Fudo no Taki, in Toyonaka-cho in Mitoyo City, Kagawa, is a beautiful waterfall that drops almost straight down a sheer cliff some 50 meters high, brushing against the rock face as it falls. Its name is said to come from a tradition that Kobo Daishi, during his ascetic training, carved an image of Fudo into this cliff and enshrined it here. The site is a designated environmental conservation area and was chosen as one of the hundred scenic views of Sanuki. It sits in a corner of a park spread with rich forest and broad lawns, and you can walk right up close to the falls.

Highlights

- The power of the waterfall dropping in a single line down a cliff about 50 meters high - The history as a place of worship, where an image of Fudo linked to Kobo Daishi is enshrined - A footpath that lets you approach close to the falls, and the cool space where you can feel the spray - A relaxing park spread with green forest and open lawns

Enjoying the Seasons

In spring, mountain cherry trees bloom nearby, and the pale blossoms harmonize beautifully with the white water of the falls. Early summer brings fresh green leaves and a sense of coolness along with the sound of the falls. Summer is a fine retreat from the heat, with pleasant spray in the air. Autumn dresses the falls in colored leaves, the most vivid scene of the year.

Access and Basic Information

- Location: Okamoto, Toyonaka-cho, Mitoyo City, Kagawa Prefecture - You can drive close to the falls and reach them a short distance from the parking area - Laid out as a park, it is an easy place to visit even with family - Footing can be slippery after rain, so take care

A Quick Tip

The volume of water changes with the season and the weather. After rain the flow grows stronger and more dramatic, but the footing becomes slippery, so do not overdo it. The autumn leaf season is especially popular, so an early morning visit lets you enjoy it at leisure.
