The Large Bath at Fusaki Beach Resort: Day-Use Hot Spring

This is the large bath of a resort facing a quiet beach on the west coast of Ishigaki Island. This area is known even within Ishigaki for the beauty of its sunsets, and after playing in the sea, you can rest your body fully in the spacious bathing area. Access and Basic Information

About forty minutes by car from Painushima Ishigaki Airport, and easy to reach by car from the center of Ishigaki as well. The large bath has a sauna and jacuzzi, and the official guidance lists use from around six to eleven in the morning and from fifteen to twenty-three in the afternoon, with last reception at twenty-two thirty. Hotel guests use it free, and since it tends to fill up around twenty to twenty-two, an earlier slot is a good aim. Conditions and hours vary by season, so checking the official site before your visit is reassuring.

Practical Travel Notes

The west coast is a sunset spot, so a fine flow is to watch the sunset from the beach in the evening and then finish in the large bath. Spend the day on the beach and pool or with activities like snorkeling and kayaking, and reset in the water at night. Going in earlier than the busy twenty-to-twenty-two window lets you relax. Allow around thirty minutes to an hour for the bath, and if you alternate with the sauna, remember to hydrate. A Quick Tip

Since the area is famous for its sunsets, timing your visit to coincide with sunset is recommended. Warming up after watching the sky turn color will make your island-trip memories all the richer.

Practical Information for Your Visit

• Large public bath hours: Year-round, 6:00-11:00 / 15:00-23:00 (last admission 22:30). Sauna included. Free of charge for hotel guests
• Day-use (non-staying) admission: You need to buy the Fusaki Pass day-use ticket (8,300 yen for adults / 5,800 yen for elementary school children / free for preschool children). It covers the Aqua Garden, the indoor pool, a parasol and chairs at the pool and beach, a towel, and use of the large public bath. Register at the Beach Station; reception closes at 17:00
• Fusaki Pass sales period: March to November 15. Sales are suspended during the spring holidays (March 20 - April 5), Golden Week (April 25 - May 6), summer (July 1 - September 30) and winter (November 16 - February 28). In winter only the indoor pool can be used for a fee, and the large public bath is not included
• Access: About 35 minutes by taxi from Painushima Ishigaki Airport (from about 4,000 yen). Hotel guests can use the free shuttle bus between the airport and the hotel (about 35 minutes, running on a fixed timetable, no reservation required). From Ishigaki Port Ferry Terminal or the city center it is about 15 minutes by car (taxi from about 1,800 yen), or about 20 minutes and 360 yen on the Kabira Resort Line local bus
• Parking: Non-staying visitors who spend a total of 2,000 yen or more at the resort get 3 hours free per vehicle (bring your receipt and parking ticket to the counter). Parking Lot 1 is about 200 m from the entrance, and a shuttle vehicle circulates from 8:15 to 19:00
• Bathing etiquette and conditions: Children who still need diapers may not enter the bathtubs. Mixed bathing is allowed only up to preschool age. Children in the lower grades of elementary school and younger must be accompanied by a guardian. Guests with tattoos may bathe provided the tattoos are completely covered by a patch or a rash guard
• Safety notes: Depending on the movement of a typhoon, the large public bath and the indoor pool, which are reached by walking outdoors, may also be closed
