Boso Seafood
The Pacific coast of Chiba produces spiny lobster, abalone, turban shell, bonito and many other premium seafood products.
Peanuts
Chiba grows more peanuts than any other Japanese prefecture. Roasted peanuts, peanut miso paste and peanut rice crackers fill souvenir shops.
Katsuura Tantan-men
A unique ramen from Katsuura City โ spiced with chilli oil in a soy broth with ground pork and sliced onion.
Namerou
A fisherman's dish โ minced blue-backed fish pounded with miso, ginger and spring onion. Best over rice or on cold tofu.
Sanga-yaki
Namerou shaped into patties and grilled โ a Chiba coast classic that concentrates all the flavour of fresh fish.
Access
Chinoura, Katsuura and Tateyama have excellent seafood restaurants. Peanuts are best at roadside stations in Yachiyo and Yachimata.
