Kagoshima Ramen
Kyushu is famous for pork bone ramen, but the version in Kagoshima has a character of its own. A cloudy broth blending pork bones with chicken and vegetables comes out mellow, with no harsh edge on the finish. Locals have long loved it as a bowl to end the evening.
Highlights
Slightly thick straight noodles lift the broth well without weighing it down. Charred scallions, sliced roast pork, and a generous heap of green onion add color, and nibbling the pickled radish on the table while you wait is the Kagoshima way. The strength and aroma differ from shop to shop, making a noodle crawl a real pleasure.
Enjoying the Seasons
On a cold night a steaming bowl soaks right through you. In summer you can savor the richness in an air conditioned dining room. Whatever the season, it is cherished as a closing bowl after drinks or a small late meal.
Access and Basic Information
Renowned shops dot the city center, especially around Tenmonkan. Many are within walking distance of a tram stop, and some stay open late, making them easy to visit at the end of a day out.
A Quick Tip
Start with a sip of the broth, where each shop concentrates its personality. Many places let you help yourself to the table pickles, so do not hold back.
