In Aya Town of Miyazaki Prefecture, known for one of Japans finest evergreen broadleaf forests, Aya Onsen wells up in this lush green village. It is a quiet hot spring embraced by one of the largest evergreen broadleaf forests in the country, where a relaxed soak can be enjoyed at spa inns. In Aya, famed too as a town of organic farming and craftwork, you can enjoy both the waters and the food.

Highlights

The spacious great bath is wonderfully open, letting you soak comfortably while gazing at the green scenery. Along with waters that leave the skin smooth, some facilities have open air pools and saunas. The green of the evergreen forest spreading beyond the windows adds serenity to your soak. The Ayakita and Ayaminami rivers flow through the town, and clear water and rich forest wrap the whole village.

Enjoying the Seasons

In spring the evergreen forest shines with new buds, and in summer the riverside greenery draws people seeking cool relief. Autumn colors the mountains, and the scenery paired with the clear stream is splendid. In winter, amid the clear air, you can spend time as if the quiet village spring were yours alone.

Access and Basic Information

Access is convenient by car, about thirty minutes from central Miyazaki City and about forty minutes from Miyazaki Airport. No railway runs through the town, so the nearest station is JR Miyazaki Station, with Miyazaki Kotsu buses linking Miyazaki City and Aya. It is near the globally precious evergreen forest and the Aya Teruha Suspension Bridge, which crosses the Kyushu Central Mountains Quasi National Park, making it easy to visit alongside nature sightseeing. Some facilities welcome day visitors.

A Quick Tip

Combining it with a walk on the Teruha Suspension Bridge or a look at Ayas handmade crafts lets you enjoy the lush green village for a full day. Cuisine using local ingredients from this organic farming town is well regarded too, so a leisurely stay with meals is recommended.

Practical Travel Notes

Aya Onsen is a hot spring in Aya Town where day bathing can be enjoyed at the towns spa facility. Aya is known as an organic farming town whose whole community practices natural ecosystem agriculture, and it is renowned for high quality produce such as Aya beef and Aya pork. Fees, opening hours, and closing days differ by facility, so checking before you go brings peace of mind. There is no railway station in the town, so travel is basically by car, though Miyazaki Kotsu buses run from the nearest JR Miyazaki Station. The Aya Teruha Suspension Bridge, the towns symbol, lies within the Kyushu Central Mountains Quasi National Park and serves as the entrance to trails through one of the countrys largest evergreen broadleaf forests. Combining the hot spring with a forest walk and meals unique to this organic farming village lets you savor a full day in Aya.
