Ishigaki Seaside Hotel Sukuji Beach Bath: Day-Use Hot Spring
This resort hotel stands facing the emerald-glowing Sukuji Beach in the northwest of Ishigaki Island. It has a large bath in a location where you feel the sound of the waves and the sea breeze, and the appeal is warming the body and catching your breath after time at the beach.
Highlights
The highlights are Sukuji Beach, counted among the most beautiful in Okinawa, and the large bath you can enjoy nearby. After playing on the beach, a leisurely soak eases a body tired by the surf. It is easy for families and well suited as a base for an island trip.
Enjoying the Seasons
In summer, rinse the flush of seaside play in the large bath; in winter, settle your body in the warm water. The Yaeyama Islands stay warm all year, and the beauty of the beach at dusk should not be missed.
Access and Basic Information
The address is Kabira, Ishigaki City. It is about thirty minutes by car from Painushima Ishigaki Airport, and nearby are famous spots such as Kabira Bay and Sukuji Beach. The large bath is on the second floor of the Tida building, and the official guidance lists use from around six to nine in the morning and from fourteen to twenty-three in the afternoon. Hotel guests use it free. Times and conditions vary by season, so please check the official site before you visit. A rental car is convenient for getting around the island.
Practical Travel Notes
Sukuji Beach is shallow and calm, so it is easy to enjoy even with small children. A nice flow is to play on the beach by day, take in the stunning view at Kabira Bay a few minutes away by car, and finish in the large bath at night. The beach is especially lovely at dusk, so a walk around sunset before your soak is a fine idea. Allow around thirty minutes to an hour for the bath to rest a body tired from the sea. For a stay, check the lodging plans on the official site for the budget. Since the island sights are mostly reached by car, arranging a rental car early is reassuring.
A Quick Tip
Sukuji Beach has shallow water that continues for some distance, so it is reassuring even for families with small children. Enjoy both the sea and the bath to wrap up your island day at an easy pace.
Practical Information for Your Visit
- Day-use bathing: Not available. The official facility guide states clearly that the large public bath is for hotel guests only (free of charge). Guests can use it from 6:00 to 9:00 and from 14:00 to 23:00
- Water quality: This is not a hot spring but a large public bath filled with heated water (it is not a hot spring under Japan's Hot Spring Act). Think of it as a place to warm up after a day in the sea
- Access: 154-12 Kabira, Ishigaki City, Okinawa Prefecture (tel. 0980-88-2421). About 40 minutes by rental car from Painushima Ishigaki Airport. By local bus (Azuma Unyu), route 11 the Yonehara Campground Line from the airport costs 960 yen one way, and route 9 the Kabira Resort Line from Ishigaki Port Ferry Terminal and the bus terminal costs 900 yen one way. A taxi takes about 40 minutes and costs 5,500 yen from the airport (small taxi for up to 4 people, advance reservation required), or about 30 minutes and 4,500 yen from the ferry terminal

- Other facilities: The garden pool is for hotel guests only and open from early March to the end of January. The shop is open 7:30-21:30. Strollers, baby cots and wheelchairs are lent out free of charge (reservation required)
- Things that need to be reserved: Accommodation, taxis from the airport or the ferry terminal, the loan of baby goods and wheelchairs, and rental electric kick scooters
- Safety notes: Sukuji Beach has a gentle, shallow slope and calm waves, but always check the designated swimming area and whether lifeguards are on duty. In summer it is reassuring to keep your skin covered as a precaution against habu jellyfish
Note: There are no railways on Ishigaki Island, so be aware that there is no such thing as access from a train station. If you want a large public bath on a day trip, one option is Niifai-yu at the Art Hotel Ishigakijima in the city center (day use 16:30-24:00, last entry 23:45, 2,000 yen for ages 13 and over including a rental towel set).
