Niifai-Yu at Art Hotel Ishigakijima: Day-Use Hot Spring
Niifai-Yu is the large bath of a hotel in central Ishigaki City. It uses ultra-soft water, pumped up from Ishigaki Island groundwater and then polished, for a soak that is gentle on the skin. Convenient as a base for island-hopping in the Yaeyama region, it carefully soothes a body tired from a full day of activity.
Highlights
The spacious bathing area includes a sauna, thoroughly relaxing a body that has been moving with snorkeling and trekking. Located in the center of town, it suits a leisurely routine: returning easily after a meal or shopping for a quick soak.
Enjoying the Seasons
In summer the water resets a body tired from marine play and island-hopping, while in winter it warms a chilled body even in the mild Yaeyama climate. Depending on your itinerary, it also makes a perfect finishing touch after taking in pastoral scenery or a starry sky.
Access and Basic Information
About thirty minutes by car from Painushima Ishigaki Airport, and only about eight minutes by car from the Ishigaki Port Ferry Terminal and the downtown area, it is also handy for reaching Taketomi and Iriomote islands. The hours for the large bath Niifai-Yu are roughly six to nine in the morning, with last entry at eight forty-five, and sixteen-thirty to twenty-three in the evening, with last entry at twenty-two forty-five. Hotel guests use it free, while visitors on a day basis may use it only in the evening. The sauna is available in the evening hours. Times and conditions vary by season, so it is reassuring to check the official site before your visit.
Practical Travel Notes
As a hotel in the heart of town, it is easy to drop by after island-hopping or a visit to Kabira Bay. Since visitors can use it from evening into the night, a soak after a meal or shopping is convenient. The Ishigaki Port Ferry Terminal is under ten minutes away by car, making it easy to plan around morning ferries. Allow around thirty minutes to an hour for the bath, and if you alternate with the sauna, keep up your fluids. The ultra-soft water has a gentle feel and is kind even to sun-touched skin. The budget is mainly the day-use bathing fee.
A Quick Tip
The ultra-soft water leaves the skin feeling supple and is gentle even on sun-touched skin, which is a happy bonus. Use it as a base for island-hopping, and let your body rest fully at night.
