Access and Basic Information

The nearest station is Nagatoro on the Chichibu Railway, and from there you can head to the various facilities on foot or by car. The Iwadatami and the river-boat boarding point are within walking distance of the station, making it a convenient base for sightseeing. A day trip from the city center is entirely possible, and this is a hot-spring area many people visit together with sightseeing. Hours and prices vary by facility, so checking in advance is reassuring.

Practical Travel Notes

Pairing your visit with river boating, hiking, or the Hodosan Ropeway lets you enjoy a full day in Nagatoro. Allow half a day for river play and strolling and two to three hours for a bath and rest. Come in easy-to-move clothing, and finishing off a day of play with a hot spring is a recommended flow. In front of the station are shops selling shaved ice and local dishes, so post-bath dining is a pleasure too. Budget roughly a few thousand yen per person for sightseeing, bathing, and a meal.

• Spring quality: The open-air bath is a metaboric acid spring with a pH of 10.0. The indoor bath is not a hot spring but a bath using bamboo vinegar
• Day-use bathing: You cannot come for the bath alone. Guests who have a meal at the inn may use the bath for the price of the meal plus a bathing fee of 900 yen
• Day-use bathing hours: The large bath is open 11:30-15:30
• Restaurant Iwazakura: Lunch service from 11:30 (last order 14:00). Kaiseki course meals require a reservation and start from 8,000 yen; group lunches for 10 or more people start from 3,300 yen
• Bathing hours for overnight guests: From check-in until 24:00, and from 6:00 to 8:30 the next morning
• Open-air bath: Yes (a rock bath for men and a cypress bath for women). The men's and women's baths are not swapped
• Private and family baths: None. There is only the large bath
• Tattoos: People with tattoos are not permitted to use the large bath
• Amenities provided: Shampoo, conditioner, body soap and soap are provided in the bathing area, and a hairdryer, lotion and other items in the changing room. However, towels and bath towels are not provided at the large bath
• Footing and barrier-free access: The large bath is on the first basement floor and there is a lift, but several steps remain inside the bathing area. Handrails are only in some places, so it is not fully barrier-free. A chair with armrests for guests with disabilities is available
• Payment: Various credit cards, electronic money and QR code payments are accepted (some cards cannot be used)
• Parking: Free of charge. About 20 spaces in front of the building, plus around 30 more a short walk away
• Access: A 3-minute walk from Nagatoro Station on the Chichibu Railway. As it is so close there is no shuttle to the station, but groups of 10 or more can reserve a shuttle to Seibu-Chichibu Station or Yorii Station in advance
• Pets: Pets cannot be brought along for either an overnight stay or a meal (guide dogs excepted)
