Amagoi Falls

In the mountains of a prefectural natural park in Kamiyama town, Tokushima, Amagoi Falls is a celebrated cascade chosen among the finest hundred waterfalls of Japan. Its graceful form pairs a female stream that drops in two stages from a height of forty-five meters with a male stream that plunges straight down twenty-seven meters. The name is said to come from a time of drought when farmers prayed here for rain. Beside the basin, a dragon deity and a guardian deity are enshrined, drawing faith in water since ancient times.
