Taineiji Temple, a Hidden Power Spot in Nagato City
Taineiji Temple
Near Nagato-Yumoto hot spring in Nagato City, Taineiji is one of the foremost Soto Zen temples, said to have been founded in 1410. Once prosperous enough to be called the Koya of the West, it is also known as the final place of the Ouchi clan, who reached the height of glory in Yamaguchi during the Muromachi period. Where the weight of history blends with the stillness of nature, it is a hidden power spot also renowned for its autumn foliage.
Highlights
- The mirror pond, where Ouchi Yoshitaka is said to have seen his reflection and sensed his end - The Banjaku Bridge over the Taineiji River, one of the three remarkable bridges of Yamaguchi - The main hall rebuilt in the Edo period and the foundation stones of the former gate that tell of history
