Aomori Apples
Aomori produces around 60% of Japan's apples. Varieties like Fuji, Orin and Jonagold are celebrated for their flavour and crunch.
Senbei-jiru
A warming hotpot from the Nanbu region of Aomori โ wheat cracker (nanbu senbei) pieces are added to a chicken or fish broth and absorb a delicious chewy texture.
Oma Maguro (Tuna)
Oma bluefin tuna from the northern tip of Aomori is among the most prized in Japan โ rich, fatty and auctioned at record prices every New Year.
Scallop Cuisine
Mutsu Bay's large farmed scallops are a local treasure. Enjoy them as sashimi, grilled in their shell with butter, or in hotategayu rice porridge.
Kaiyaki Miso
A beloved Aomori dish โ eggs and miso cooked inside a scallop shell over a flame. Simple, rustic and deeply satisfying.
Access
Aomori City's Furukawa Market and Oma Town's restaurants are excellent for fresh seafood. Apple products are best bought at roadside farm stands.
