Tanigumisan Kegonji

Tanigumisan Kegonji, located in Ibigawa Town, Ibi District, Gifu Prefecture, is an ancient temple known as the 33rd and final stop of the Saigoku Thirty-Three Kannon pilgrimage, the place of fulfillment that concludes the pilgrim's journey. Said to have been founded in 798, it has received the prayers of countless pilgrims for over a thousand years, making it a power spot for the granting of wishes.

Highlights

- Long Approach: The stone-paved approach stretching about one kilometer from the front gate to the main hall is lined with souvenir shops and teahouses, heightening the pilgrim's mood. - Proof of Fulfillment: As the place where those who complete the Saigoku pilgrimage achieve fulfillment, it is said to offer a special sense of accomplishment and blessings. - Main Hall and Oizurudo: The solemn, history-rich main hall and the Oizurudo, where pilgrims dedicate their oizuru garments, are highlights.

Enjoying the Seasons

The greatest highlight is the autumn foliage. The tunnel of maples coloring both sides of the approach is called the "Maple Approach" and is known as one of the foremost foliage spots in the Tokai region. At its peak in November, it bustles with crowds. It shows beautiful faces throughout the year, with cherry blossoms in spring and the fresh green of young maples in summer.
