Dorogawa Onsen
Dorogawa Onsen is a mountain hot spring spread out at the trailhead of Mount Omine, a sacred place of the mountain ascetic tradition. Lined with wooden inns, the spa town is full of a nostalgic mood, and at night the lanterns hung from the eaves deepen its charm. Known as a village of famous water, its clear water and air set the body right from within.Highlights
At the center of the town stands a facility for day bathing, renewed in 2024 as a visitor center. In a tub with views of the mountains you can slowly soothe the tiredness of hiking or strolling. Walking the streets you will find sights such as Gorogoro water, counted among Japans hundred famous waters, and the Mendo limestone cave, so you can pair bathing with sightseeing. The distinctive townscape, where the history of mountain asceticism still lives, is itself the greatest sight.Enjoying the Seasons
From spring into summer the town bustles with climbers, and walks through the green valley feel wonderful. In autumn the surrounding mountains turn color, and a bath with foliage in view is hard to beat. In winter the quiet spa town wrapped in snow shows a calm beauty, and the warm water feels all the more welcome.Access and Basic Information
The town is in Dorogawa, Tenkawa village, Yoshino district, Nara. The usual route is by bus from Kintetsu Shimoichiguchi Station, with the spa town spread out near the last stop. By car there are free and paid parking lots. The day facility is often closed on Wednesdays, so it is good to check before you visit.A Quick Tip
As befits a village of famous water, many people fill bottles with spring water to take home. Bringing an empty bottle lets you carry off some delicious water as a souvenir. Mornings and evenings in the mountains turn cold, so a layer to throw on is reassuring.📍 Location & Access
