This day-use hot spring wells up in Sadamitsu, Tsurugi town, at the foot of Mount Tsurugi, the second-highest peak in western Japan. Colorless and clear with a faint slipperiness, it is cherished as a beauty bath that leaves the skin smooth.

Highlights

The water is a sodium bicarbonate and chloride cold mineral spring. The silky feel of the water is pleasant, and the open-air bath looks out on the ranges leading to Mount Tsurugi. Seasonal specialty baths such as yuzu or herb baths also change through the year, so each visit brings a different scent and color. The bicarbonate smooths the skin while the chloride warmth lingers long after your bath, giving the water the merits of both components. Rising 1,955 meters, Mount Tsurugi is the second-highest peak in western Japan after Mount Ishizuchi, and the bath cradled at its foot is filled with the clear mountain air.

Enjoying the Seasons

Spring greenery, a bath to wash off climbing sweat in summer, autumn foliage dyeing the mountains, and winter views of snow-capped Mount Tsurugi let you savor the mountain seasons straight from the tub. It is also a handy base for climbing Tsurugi or touring Iya. The town of Sadamitsu has the Udatsu townscape, a nationally designated preservation district of historic buildings, so a stroll pairs well with your soak.

Access and Basic Information

It is in Sadamitsu, Tsurugi town, Mima District. It is reachable by car from the Mima Interchange on the Tokushima Expressway and makes a good stop while driving toward Minokoshi, the trailhead for Mount Tsurugi.

A Quick Tip

Popular for rinsing off after a hike, it tends to be busy in the evening. Choosing your timing around the seasonal specialty baths is also a pleasure.
