Shishikui Onsen: Hot Spring Guide & Visitor Access
This hot spring wells up by the sea in Shishikui, Kaiyo town, at the southern tip of Tokushima. As the bath of a hotel attached to a roadside station, it draws visitors with its Pacific-facing setting and its silky-feeling water.
Highlights
The water is a sodium bicarbonate spring. Soak in the gentle, bicarbonate-rich water and your skin turns smooth afterward. Beyond the windows spreads the wide Pacific, and bathing while watching the sun rise from the horizon in the morning is exceptional. A bicarbonate spring gently removes excess oil and old skin, leaving it smooth, and is known as a beauty bath for the skin. Overlooking the open ocean to the sound of the surf, the bath is full of the openness unique to southern Awa.
Enjoying the Seasons
In summer it serves as a base for surfing and swimming, a place to rinse off the salt and take a breath. Spring and autumn suit drives through mild southern Awa, and winter brings a relatively warm seaside holiday thanks to the Kuroshio current. A beach where sea turtles come ashore is nearby, keeping nature close. The sea out front is known as a surf spot, drawing wave-seekers year-round.
Access and Basic Information
It is in Shishikui-ura, Kaiyo town, Kaifu District. The route heads south from central Tokushima along Route 55, and visiting it together with a coastal drive is recommended. From Shishikui Station on the Asa Kaigan Railway it is about a 10-minute walk.
