Mountain Villages Become Galleries

The Nakanojo Biennale is an international contemporary art festival held every two years in Nakanojo Town, Gunma. Artists develop works in abandoned schools, old farmhouses, and agricultural landscapes.

Fusion of Region and Art

Nakanojo Town, the festival venue, has many hot spring areas including Shima Onsen and Sawatari Onsen, allowing combined art appreciation and hot spring trips. Interaction with local residents is also a highlight.

Domestic and International Artists

Many artists from Japan and abroad participate, displaying diverse works from cutting-edge pieces to approachable installations. Enjoy the dialogue between mountain nature and contemporary art.
